Another Ganjib Suwon episode featured
Jungcheol Hwangso Ggopchang, and
I really wanted to go there,
But guess what?!
It turned out to be near my house!
Why didn't I know about this before?!?
The show had already aired,
and I'd heard a lot about
the long wait times in my neighborhood mom cafe,
so I'd just been checking it out from afar.
After 10 months,
I finally visited.
I saw in a recent review that
although they open at 4 PM, you could
start eating as early as 3 PM.
Just in case, I left home early
and arrived at 2:40 PM.
There was one group ahead of us.
Around 50 minutes later, they turned on the catch table in front of the store,
and we were the second to sign up.
They let us in around 3 PM.
Oh? Had their opening time really changed?
I asked the person who was grilling the gopchang after ordering, and
they said that because of the long Chuseok holiday in September,
they were opening at 3 PM on Saturdays only for a limited time.
If you're planning to visit Jungcheol Hwangso Ggopchang on a Saturday in September,
it's good to keep that in mind.
Since everyone seemed to think they opened at 4 PM,
we were able to enjoy our meal in a relaxed atmosphere.
My elementary school-aged child, my husband, and I
started with 2 portions of al gopchang.
We started with 2 portions of al gopchang.
They brought out the pre-cooked al gopchang and vegetables, grilled them,
and served it with basic side dishes like chives, bean sprouts, and scallions.
We finished cooking it ourselves.
They also served a bowl of seonji (congealed ox blood) soup,
which was spicy and helped cut through the richness of the gopchang.
It was my elementary school-aged child's first time trying gopchang,
and thankfully, they enjoyed it.
They dipped the bean sprouts and gopchang in a soy sauce mixture.
Here's the menu at Jungcheol Hwangso Ggopchang.
After finishing the 2 portions of al gopchang,
we ordered 1 portion each of yeomtong (marinated beef heart), chadolbakki (beef brisket), daechang (large intestine), and teukyang-gui (beef honeycomb tripe).
We tried them all.
My elementary school-aged child liked yeomtong the best after al gopchang.
They were so full from all the meat that they didn't even eat rice.
Since I love spicy food,
I also ordered a bowl of spicy ramen.
It was perfectly chewy and so delicious for my taste buds! 😍
It was a weekend, so Jungcheol Hwangso Ggopchang was
filled with families like us who had brought their children.
Since they have these round tables,
the floor is a bit slippery,
and the grease splatters when grilling gopchang, so
it might be a bit difficult for very young children.
But elementary school-aged kids and older can
definitely enjoy it,
making it a great family dining spot.
One more thing: Parking!!
It's best to avoid driving there.
It's located on a very narrow street,
and when I was walking out, I saw a lot of cars getting stuck. 😱
It's within walking distance of Mangpo Station, so
it's best to take public transportation. 🚆
